Lyrics

play Hey, hey, hey
play Hey, hey, hey

play Your lipstick stains
play On the front part of my
play Left side brain
play I knew I wouldn't forget you
play And so I went and let you
play blow my mind

play Your sweet moonbeam
play The smell of you in every
play Single dream I dream
play I knew when we collided
play You're the one I have decided
play Who's one of my kind

play Hey soul sister
play Ain't that Mr. mister
play On the radio, stereo
play The way you move ain't fair, you know
play Hey soul sister
play I don't wanna miss
play A single thing you do
play Tonight

play Hey, hey, hey

play Just in time
play I'm so glad you have
play A one track mind like me
play You gave my life direction
play A game show love connection
play We can't deny

play I'm so obsessed
play My heart is bound to beat
play Right out my untrimmed chest
play I believe in you
play Like a virgin, you're Madonna
play And I'm always gonna wanna blow your mind

play Hey soul sister
play Ain't that Mr. mister
play On the radio, stereo
play The way you move ain't fair, you know
play Hey soul sister
play I don't wanna miss
play A single thing you do
play Tonight

play The way you can cut a rug
play Watching you is the only drug I need
play So gangster, I'm so thug
play You're the only one I'm dreaming of

play You see, I can be myself now finally
play In fact there's nothing I can't be
play I want the world to see you'll be with me

play Hey soul sister
play Ain't that Mr. mister
play On the radio, stereo
play The way you move ain't fair, you know
play Hey soul sister
play I don't wanna miss
play A single thing you do
play Tonight

play Hey soul sister
play I don't wanna miss
play A single thing you do
play Tonight

play Hey, hey, hey
play Tonight
play Hey, hey, hey

meaning Meaning

Lyrically, Stafford admitted the inspiration for the song came about while Monahan was imagining what Burning Man must be like, and started penning lyrics inspired by the imagery he saw:

"The story lyrically, I’ve heard Pat talk about this in interviews. He’s always heard of Burning Man. Somewhere in Reno Nevada's desert, they do it every year. It’s this whole city in the desert that gets built for a festival that happens every year. They build a huge man out of wood and at the end of the festival they burn it. Pat had never been to Burning Man, but he had an image in his head of what it must be like. All these beautiful women dancing around the fire. That was the imagery he conjured up when he was writing the lyrics to, “Hey, Soul Sister.” It’s a pretty big deal. Thousands and thousands of people go to it every year. People run around naked and I guess it’s a total crazy deal.
